Real-World Applications
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Small tiles with wide joints can use 5x more grout than large tiles with tight joints. You must calculate based on tile size and joint width, not just area.
Buy 10-15% more grout than calculated. Running out mid-installation from the same lot is critical - grout color can vary slightly between batches.
Unsanded grout for joints under 1/8 inch. Sanded grout for 1/8 inch and wider. Sanded grout in narrow joints can damage polished tiles by scratching during installation.
