Real-World Applications
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Look up or calculate M precisely. Water is 18.015 g/mol, not 18. For NaCl: 22.990 + 35.453 = 58.443 g/mol.
Mass must be in grams. If given in kg or mg, convert first: 1 kg = 1000 g, 1 mg = 0.001 g.
n = m/M not m/n. Divide mass by molar mass. If your answer in moles is larger than the mass in grams for common compounds, recheck.
