Common Mistakes to Avoid

❌ TDP is maximum, not average

Servers rarely run at 100% TDP. Average utilization of 40-60% is typical for general-purpose servers.

❌ PUE adds overhead

Data center power usage effectiveness (PUE) = 1.1-1.6. Multiply server power by PUE for total facility cost. Google average: ~1.10.

Frequently Asked Questions

PUE explained?

PUE = Total facility power / IT equipment power. PUE 1.0 = perfect. 1.2 = good. 1.5 = average. 2.0 = poor (as much cooling/other as servers).

Cloud vs on-premise power cost?

Cloud providers have massive scale and low PUE (1.1-1.2). Small data centers: 1.5-2.0. Cloud often cheaper in power alone.

Green data center?

Major clouds (AWS, Google, Azure) target 100% renewable energy. On-premise needs REC purchases or direct renewable contracts.
