What is osmotic pressure?

How does osmosis work?
Water moves from low solute (high water activity) to high solute (low water activity) through semi-permeable membrane. Osmotic pressure opposes this flow.
What is reverse osmosis?
Applying pressure greater than osmotic pressure forces water from concentrated to dilute side, opposite to natural osmosis. Used in water purification and desalination.
What is the osmotic pressure of blood?
